Obituary For Robert James Carnathan
Robert James Carnathan, age 88, passed away on Wednesday June 7, 2023 after a long battle with bone marrow cancer.
“Jim” Carnathan was the youngest of three children to Ralph and Eula Carnathan. He was
born in Montgomery, Alabama March 2, 1935. His family moved to The Dalles, Ore. where he completed high school and then enlisted in the Navy. He was stationed at Whidbey Island, Washington and served for 4 years. He met Sharon Lee Peterson who also lived in The Dalles, Ore. and they married August 21, 1960. Soon after, they welcomed their first child Kim in 1961. Jim and Sharon moved to Inglewood, Ca. so Jim could attend Northrop Institute of Technology. He graduated in 1962 after he earned his certifications in A and P mechanics. Jim and Sharon moved to Redwood City, Ca after he completed school and then to Newark Ca. where they settled to raise their family. Their second child James Scott Carnathan was born January 8, 1963.
Jim worked at TWA as an A and P mechanic for over 30 years and at the FAA for about 20 years before retiring at the age of 78 in 2013. Jim enjoyed flying his Cessna 172 and attending car shows in his 55 Chevy. He was also a volunteer with the Alameda County Sheriff's Department.
He was preceded in death by his wife Sharon who passed away in 2005. He is survived by his children, Kim Rauch and James Carnathan, daughter in law Gayle, and four grandchildren William, James, Austin and Bryce.
