Melvin Anthony Mello, of Fremont, passed away on January 25th at the age of 97. He is survived by his children; Gary J. Mello (Glenna) and Gail Mello-Wagner, grandchildren; Ryan Alter (Ruby), John Mello, and Jennifer Mello Stimson (Mitchell), and great grandchildren; Jackson Alter and Jessa Alter.

Melvin was born on December 2, 1926 to Manuel P. Mello and Frances F. Perry. The Mello Family had lived on Beard Road since 1905 in the Centerville District of Washington Township (now known as Fremont). He graduated from Washington High School in 1946 and was in the Army in the Pacific during WWII. Melvin married the love of his life, Mary A. Avila, on September 14, 1947. He farmed with his father until 1955 and then went to work for the Alameda County Mosquito Abatement District until 1978, when he retired. Melvin enjoyed dancing with Mary, traveling to Hawaii and the Azores, and the Bay Area sport teams.
