Obituary For Margaret C. Quinones

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Margaret Carmelita “Carmen” Quinones of Union City, CA, on January 29, 2024. Born on October 18, 1943, Carmen lived a life marked by resilience, warmth, and an indomitable spirit, leaving us at the age of 80 years old.

Carmen, a cherished member of her family, and community, was known for her radiant smile, her twinkling eyes, and her unwavering sense of humor, even in the face of adversity. Despite her challenges with mild mental retardation, and some hearing loss, Carmen’s strength and determination never waned. She navigated life with the aid of her beloved walker, a symbol of her independence and tenacity.

Her journey was not without its trials, notably her struggle with health issues, which she faced with admirable courage and the support of her family and her staff to aid her when she needed it. Carmen’s resilience during difficult times was a testament to her character.

Carmen’s love for life was evident in her involvement with various organizations such as Area Board 5, RCEB Board of Directors, Alameda County IHSS, People First, and CAC. Her decreased attendance in later years, due to declining health and energy, was felt by all who knew her in these circles.

Her home in Union City was not just a residence but a haven where she enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, supported by the caring staff. Carmen’s ability to express herself and connect with others, despite occasional confusion and anxiety, was a source of inspiration to many.

Carmen’s life was a journey of overcoming obstacles, finding joy in each day, and touching the lives of those around her with her unique charm and warmth. She will be deeply missed by her sisters, Rosemary and Teresa, her extended family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know her.

As we bid farewell to Carmen, we celebrate her life, her contributions, and the countless memories she has left behind. Her legacy of resilience, humor, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.

“Though she is gone, Carmen’s light continues to shine in all of us.”
