Obituary For Grace Aiko Wakashige Kawabe
Grace Aiko Wakashige Kawabe, age 82, passed away September 12, 2023. Grace is survived by her husband, Daniel, sons Miles Rikio Kawabe and Vance Nobori Kawabe, and brother Benjamin Taka Wakashige.
Grace was the second child born to Asayo and Akio Wakashige in Paia, Maui, Hawaii on September 23, 1940. She graduated from Baldwin High School in Wailuku, Maui, Hawaii in 1958, and Western New Mexico University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education in 1963. She married high school sweetheart Daniel Toru Kawabe in Kahalui, Maui, Hawaii in 1963. After teaching over 29 years at Vallejo Mill Elementary School in Fremont, she retired in 2001. In her retirement Grace enjoyed gardening and supporting the Bay Area sporting teams.

My Condolences to Mrs. Grace Kawabe's entire family, Mr. Dan Kawabe, Miles and Vance. God watch over all of them. I remember when we were kids our moms would split driving duties to take us to activities. The 4 of us would get together to play board games at the Kawabe's home and Mrs Kawabe was always smiling and nice when we were there, which was almost all of our summers. I will never forget Grace and her kindness. Mrs Kawabe you are missed.

Grace was a kind & talented mentor/teacher. We are forever grateful to her for taking our daughters under her wings, teaching them to first read & then nurturing their life-long love of lively stories & fine books. We feel blessed to have known her. Vinaye & Nancy Misra
