Dorothy Eileen Hughes passed away on December 30, 2023 at the age of 96 in Fremont, California. She was born on January 23, 1927 in Hutchinson, Minnesota to Emma and August Lenz. After a childhood in North Dakota and a few years working in Minneapolis, she moved to California in 1947. There she met her future husband, Gray. Together they owned and operated the Flood Park Pharmacy in Menlo Park in the 1960s. After it closed, she worked for the county of San Mateo in various positions retiring as payroll supervisor at the county hospital (Chope) in 1986. She remained a member of SCORPA for the rest of her life.

She was a long- time resident of Menlo Park and Redwood City and was a member of the Menlo Park Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years. She also volunteered at Little House in Menlo Park for many years.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, her sister Viola and her brother Gerald. She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Read and son-in-law Steven, of Fremont, California, her sister-in-law Rita Lenz, her nephews Richard Castello and Mark Lenz and her nieces, Betty Strazzo and Lela Mulligan.

She was laid to rest at Skylawn Memorial Park in San Mateo on January 8, 2024.
