Obituary For Norean Martinez

Norean Martinez, age 82 died peacefully on Saturday June 15, 2019 in Manteca, CA. She was born on July 8, 1936 to Thomas and Dolly Vickers in Little Rock, Arkansas and was the 5th of 9 children. As a child, she moved with her family to Russell City, CA. When she married, she moved to Union City where she was a longtime resident. Norean was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Louis, Jeannie, Angie, Lil, Geraldine, Paul, Ronald and her son Daniel Eugene Martinez.

She is survived by her children, Edward Martinez, Gregory Martinez, Cynthia Flores, Juanita Jaros, 16 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren and her sister Norma Salazar.

She will be remembered as a loving mother, sister, Aunt, Grandmother, Great Grandmother but mostly as an amazing woman of great faith and one who loved her desserts. She enjoyed attending church, bible study, playing cards and spending time with family.

Viewing will be held on Saturday June 29, 2019 at 11:00am at Victory Outreach Heart, 354 B Street Hayward. Funeral services to follow at 12:00pm with Pastor Estevan Pineda officiating. Burial at 1:45pm at Mt. Eden Cemetery, 2440 Depot Road Hayward. Reception to follow at Victory Outreach Heart fellowship hall.

They were always so positive and supportive of you and your education. I am sure it was a struggle for them to send you to Santa Barbara but they made the sacrifice for you. that is the kind of people they were. My aunt Noreen was of Cherokee and Chickasaw heritage as well as European.She was born and lived for a few years within the Arkansas Cherokee Territory.This was created because of white encroachments onto our lands in what is now North Carolina and e.Tennessee.Our families did not go into Oklahoma they remained on the only lands the legitimate Cherokee Nation ever agreed to west of the Mississippi River.Her grand parents on both sides the Curtis and Vickers families are pictured herein.Rosco with grandson Mike and Isiah Vickers with wife Dessie,the younger brothers of her grandfather William are pictured here along with her Curtis grandparents Sherman and Amanda with aunt Noreens oldest aunt- Roselle circa,1892 here in Big Flat ,Arkansas,where my aunt Noreen lived a few years of her life.Roselle is again pictured by herself at 70 years old. It is important to know my aunt Noreens heritage,its what made her the person that she was,in so many ways. Our families were very large they lived along the White River and Buffalo rivers in Arkansas far before it became a state as they claimed it and the Arkansas Cherokee lands in 1828, we vowed,like our Chiefs not to go to Oklahoma and be put into a controlled situation on lands with far less beauty.
