Maria de Jesus (Chucha) Gallardo, June 24, 1929 РMarch 3, 2021, of Fremont passed away Wednesday, March 3rd at the age of 91. Chucha, a devout Catholic, is the beloved eldest sister among eight siblings, a devoted wife for more than fifty years, and a loving mother and grandmother to her four children and four grandchildren. Chucha was born in La Ca̱ada de Caracheo, Guanajuato, Mexico on June 24, 1929 and moved to the United States with her young son to reunite with her husband, the late Dolores (Lole) Gallardo. In La Ca̱ada, with the support of her older brother, the late Carlos Vera, Chucha generously gave of herself by stepping in to help her parents raise her many younger siblings, Felipe Vera, Miguel Vera, Ernesto Vera, Socorro Vera, Irma I̱iguez, and Mario Vera, now all in their 70s, 80s and 90s. Chucha became a second mother to her youngest siblings, a bond that only grew stronger when many of her siblings settled in California. In Fremont with her infinite patience and attentiveness, Chucha dedicated herself to raising her children Rigoberto, Edith, Elia and Enrique. Chucha enjoyed cheering for her oldest grandchild, Riguito, as he played basketball and adored the violin performances by her youngest grandchild, Joaquin. Throughout her life, Chucha expressed her love by ensuring no one left her home without being fed. To any of her many nieces and nephews that visited Tia Chucha on the right day, they were rewarded with a homemade flour tortilla made with some of her unending love.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 10, 2021, from 5 PM to 8 PM, at Fremont Chapel of the Roses 1940 Peralta Boulevard, Fremont, with a Vigil Service at 6:30 PM. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, March 11, 2021, 11 AM, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, 41933 Blacow Road, Fremont, with a burial to follow Irvington Memorial Cemetery, Fremont. Unfortunately, due to COVID restrictions, participation will be limited to those contacted by the family.
