Obituary For Alexander Olivera

On September 19, 2018, Alexander Olivera, loving husband and father, passed away at the age of 92 at his home in Niles.

Alex was born on December 12, 1925 in Niles to Manuel and Lena (Martinez) Olivera. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in November 1943 where he served as a signalman on the USS Baxter in the South Pacific during World War II. He returned to Niles to marry the love of his life, Evanna Olson on May 2, 1946. He went to work for the Alameda County Road Department and retired as a supervisor after a 34-year career.

Alex and Evanna raised two children together, Allen and Sandy. Alex loved the outdoors and spent many days hunting, fishing, camping with family and friends, or travelling the country with Evanna by his side towing their trailer on every road he could cover on the map. He had so many hobbies and interests and enjoyed tinkering in his garage. Alex was quick to make jokes and loved to tease his grandchildren.

Alex was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mildred. He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Evanna, son Allen Olivera of Montana, daughter Sandy and her husband Jim Pradels of Redding, grandson Scott Pradels of Santa Rosa, granddaughters Jennifer Cogle (Todd) of Redding, Aimee Olivera-Sanchez (Nathan) of Maryland, Virginia Manley (Jason) of North Carolina, seven great-granddaughters, one great-grandson, and many cousins.

The family will hold a private memorial in his honor.
