Obituary For Melford Alameda

Melford (Mel) passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 5th at the age of 88. Born in Centerville, CA, Mel spent majority of his life in Fremont, CA in a large family which included his father, Antone and mother, Pauline; siblings Doris Crowe (Boyd), Stanley (Virginia), Shirley Lorenz (Gene) Harold and Irving (Laura). Mel and Lorraine later moved to Hollister in 1998. After graduating from Washington High School, Mel served as a corporal in the Korean War. While overseas, he wrote a letter to Lorraine his bride, back home every day. Upon return, Mel worked for LS Williams Company and in 1983 purchased the entity with his sons. The company was then renamed The Alameda Company and later expanded into Topflavor Farms and Sabor Farms. Farming and family were Mel’s passion. Through farming Mel and Lorraine traveled from Fremont to Mexico, Yuma, Colorado, Salinas and Hollister. Family trips were many, traveling with all 24 family members house boating on Lake Powell, a Alaskan cruise, sightseeing in Yellowstone and most recently Canada. Through trial and tribulations, Mel remained the steadfast guide for his family. Mel was a tremendous athlete, excelling at baseball, bowling, and golf. He was a member of the Native sons of the Golden West and Castlewood Country Club. Mel is predeceased by his beloved wife, Lorraine and his son Kevin Alameda. He is survived by his loving children Steve Alameda (wife Peggy), Natalie Sana (husband Tom), Craig Alameda (wife Angie) and Tony Alameda (wife Cathy). Mel was blessed with nine wonderful grandchildren and eight beautiful great grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held on July 15 at Tony and Cathy’s home at 4:00.
